11- Spanish Bar

SPANISH BAR

Music: Javier García Vicente; Lyrics: Mike Williams / JGV

Vocals: Marcel Verbeek

Mandolin: Janos Koolen

Drums: Erik Dekker

Percussion: Jeroen de Rijk

Guitar, bass guitar, vocals: Javier García Vicente

In 1999 I travelled on a sailing boat from Barcelona to Martinique. The music came to mind while crossing the Atlantic Ocean. On my return to London my friend Mike Williams helped me out finishing the arrangement and lyrics and the song was born.

HOLA SEÑORITA, DO YOU WANNA DANCE WITH ME?

AM I LIFTED BY A SUNNY BREEZE?

AM I FLOATING ON A DEEP BLUE SEE?

THE WATER IS COOL, THE SUN IS HOT

DREAMING OF A SPANISH BAR

SHE TOOK ME AWAY IN THE OCEAN

IT’S SUCH A DIFFERENT WORLD THAN HERE ON LAND

THE MOST AMAZING DUSK I’VE EVER SEEN

OUR LIVES WERE MOVED UPON THE WAVES

HOLA SEÑORITA…

ARE YOU WITH ME OR AM I ALONE?

AM I SOMEWHERE I CAN CHARGE MY PHONE?

THE WATER IS COOL, THE SUN IS HOT

DREAMING OF A SPANISH BAR

SHE FILLED ME UP WITH THE NOTION

MY LIFE WOULD NEVER BE THE SAME AGAIN

TWO HEARTS THAT NEEDED EACH OTHER

WHIRLING LOVERS IN THE WIND

SHE TOOK ME AWAY IN THE OCEAN

IT’S SUCH A DIFFERENT LIFE THAN HERE ON LAND

THE MOST AMAZING DUSK I’VE EVER SEEN

OUR LIVES WERE MOVED UPON THE WAVES

10- Amistad

AMISTAD
Music: Javier García Vicente; Lyrics: Amelia de Vicente / J.G.V
Vocals, guitar, bass guitar: J.G.V; Violin: Mina Homma; Mandolin: Janos Koolen;

The song is about betrayed friendship. Someone in tears with a broken heart, a project on the line and no hope for solution, you trusted a friend and it has gone terribly wrong.
Writing a song and create something out of pain, to lift the soul.

Pasa y cuéntale a tu amigo tu mentira y tu verdad.

Pasa y cuéntale a tu amigo

Saxophone: Pieter van Houte; Electric guitar: Janos Koolen;
Drums: Pim Huitink; Percussion: Jeroen de Rijk;
Vocals, acoustic guitar, bass guitar: J.G.V
“They were right, those who said love is not enough to overcome the problems and the phases, partner”
Relationships are always tricky. Especially long ones go through phases and challenges with time. Why argue or be angry, it’s such short life after all!
If you can choose to be with someone: make it work, it’ll be worthy.

Si me dan a elegir yo quisiera disfrutarla junto a ti, compañera

GIRL I WANT TO DEDICATE A SONG TO YOU

FOR ALL THIS YEARS TOGETHER

POR WHAT LOVE BROUGHT US

WE MET AT A GIG

YOU HAD A TRISKEL AROUND YOUR NECK

LIKE ME

SOMEDAYS YOU WANT TO GO OUT

WHEN I FELL LIKE TO STAY IN

SOMETHINGS MAKES US SMILE

AND OTHERS MAKES US CRY

BUT FIVETEEN SPRINGS HAD PASSED

AND I’M STILL MOORED IN THE BEACH

OF YOUR SKIN

THEY WERE RIGHT

THOSE WHO SAY LOVE IS NOT ENOUGH

TO OVERCOME THE PROBLEMS AND THE PHASES

COMPANION

I LOOK MYSELF IN THE MIRROR

AND SEE YOUR REFLECTION WITHOUT WANTING TO KNOW

THAT LAST NIGHT  I WAS ABSENT FROM YOUR BED

AGAIN

BUT AT DAWN (SUNRISE)

I SNEAK TENDERLY IN BED NEXT TO YOU

THEY WERE RIGHT

THOSE WHO SAY LOVE IS NOT ENOUGH

TO OVERCOME THE PROBLEMS AND THE PHASES

COMPANION

SO MANY THINGS TO PUT UP WITH

IT’S NORTH TO ARGUE ABOUT, TO SHOUT ABOUT

LIFE IS TOO SHORT

IF I COULD CHOOSE

I’D LIKE TO ENJOY IT NEXT TO YOU

COMPANION

ALL THAT IS STILL AHEAD OF US

COMPANION

8- Aan de Rijn

AAN DE RIJN
Music: Javier García Vicente; Lyrics: Theo Oerlemans
Vocals: Caroline Lobanov; Violin: Bea Reijs; Mandolin: Janos Koolen; Guitar, bass: J.G.V

The Rhine runs across six countries of Europe and when arrives in The Netherlands it divides into three rivers. I often visit the Rhine rivers to greet its waters. In Utrecht, I sat by the Leidsche Rijn, in Wijk bij Duurstede by the sluices where the Nederrijn changes into the Lek. In Wageningen too I sit by the Nederrijn to play guitar and to contemplate. I find my peace near the water. Many songs came to mind while sitting by the river Rhine.

Water,
een oud stukje stad
kruist nu al zo vaak m’n pad
‘k vind er altijd wel een plek
maar heb sinds lang, m’n vaste stek

Hier voel ik mij pas bevrijd
soms ga ’k dan terug in de tijd
jij, een rivier ongeremd
nog niet door mensen getemd

Vogels het is een gefluit
eenden die snateren luid
pak m’n gitaar, maak mijn eigen muziek
zo feeëriek

’t leven heb jij hier gebracht
je water vult elke gracht
nu, ben je dan ongewild
 lijdzaam in rust en verstild

Ik zie in de verte de brug
wil eigenlijk nog niet terug
voel me versmelten in dit schilderij
’t gaat voorbij

Water, de molen weerkaatst
zonlicht vandaag voor het laatst
afscheid van jou ik doet pijn
maar het was fijn
Om hier te zijn
hier aan de rijn
kom neem me mee met jouw stroom
 lieve Rijn

7- Resurrection

RESURRECTION
Music & Lyrics: Javier García Vicente
Drums: Pim Huitink; Keyboards: Jerome van Rossum; Electric guitar: Janos Koolen;
Vocals, Guitar, bass: J.G.V
This song describes two very personal stories. The first one is about choices in life.
“Is not the way that you want but what you want on the way”.

The second is a real story that happened to me. More than 30 years ago in Madrid, someone told my high-school friends that I had died by heroin overdose. In reality, I moved from to Alicante and started my life as a musician. Now, decades later, we reconnected and laugh over my resurrection.

I walked down many streets
Oh yes it happened to me

Caught some bumps on the road
and that’s the way I learned

Sometimes I can hear the end
knocking on the front door

But let me tell you my friend, oh no
that’s not the way I should go

This is the time when I face my crime
This is the place to start over again

This is the sound that will make a spark
I shall live
Resurrection

I went away for some time
Some people took me for dead

The trip was bound to be long
‘cause I was tied to my bed

Not until I took my time could I understand

It’s not the way that you want
is what you want on the way

This is the time when I face my crime
This is the place to start over again

This is the sound that will make a spark
 I shall live
Resurrection

I walked through many streets
Oh yes it happened to me

So now I’ve nothing to fear
‘cause I was born to be free

6- So Stupid, So Foolish

SO STUPID, SO FOOLISH
Music: Javier Garcia Vicente; Lyrics: Eric Kerns / J.G.V
Vocals: Eric Kerns; Flugelhorn: Ben de Vries; Drums: Pim Huitink; Electric guitar: Janos Koolen; Percussion: Jeroen de Rijk; Backing vocals: Christiana Bairaktari; Acoustic guitar, bass guitar: J.G.V
In 2011 a nuclear plant in Fukushima, Japan got fatally damaged by a tsunami wave of 13 meters which overwhelmed the 10 meter plant’s seawall. It created the biggest nuclear disaster ever on our planet Earth. “How can we be so stupid” to build a nuclear plant so close to the sea, in a tsunami prone area, with the sole protection of a 10-meter wall? As a consequence our children and their children will be living in radioactive waste for hundreds of years.
In October 2008, following the bankruptcies of Lehman Brothers and Washington Mutual, The Dow Jones Industrial Average falls 777.68 points. Is the biggest financial collapse in the history of Wall Street.“How can we be so foolish” to trust the bankers again and again? Yet again we are naive to beg the solution from the people who created the problem.

I don’t know why humans can be so dumb

Making the same mistakes, again and again

We should’ve known
the risk of playing too close to the edge

Remember what mama said:
you’re bound to stumble and fall

Some people find it hard to sleep

Others pray for their soul to keep

Buring their heads in the sand
while filling their pockets at the bank

So stupid
How can we live in a world run by greedy men?

So foolish
Selling out our children’s lives again and again

How can we be so stupid to let them win
how can we be so foolish

I don’t know why humans can be so dumb

Making the same mistakes, again and again

I don’t know how
people can turn a blind eye for profit

They build empires on the backs of the poor

Just to have a little more

So stupid
How can we live in a world run by greedy men?

So foolish
Selling out our children’s lives again and again

How can we be so stupid to let them win?

How can we live in a world run by greedy men?

So foolish
Selling out our children lives again and again

Stupid
How can we be so stupid to let them win?

How could we be so foolish to let them win?

How can we be so stupid
so foolish?

5- A través del cristal

A TRAVÉS DEL CRISTAL
Music: Javier Garcia Vicente; Lyrics: J.G.V / Carlos Aguilar Blanc
Electric guitar: Juan Andrés Morales; Keyboards: Jelmer van Veen; Harmonica: Cadijo;
Drums: Pim Huitink; Banjo: Janos Koolen; Percussion: Jeroen de Rijk;
Acoustic guitar, bass guitar, vocals: J.G.V
The concept of a universal link between all existing things is very appealing to me. Especially  between ideas and creation of any kind.
When the sand on the beach gets wet from the waves, it changes in density and tone. It is not because the sand itself but because the water passing through it.

Who is to say that we really create these things out of our brain? Couldn’t we be tapping onto a stream of invisible connections that, providing certain conditions, are received inside our mind, making an image that we can then interpret as our idea or creation? Música: Javier Garcia Vicente. Letra: JGV & Carlos Aguilar Blanc

Vocal: Caroline Lobanov; Acordeon: Dino Hatz; Piano: Jerome van Rossum; Drums: Erik Dekker;
Guitar & bass guitar: J.G.V
“Like a shell – my love – at the sea’s shore – I put the ear on the guitar –
as my soul cries – for the sea”

The melody came to my head at Gale beach in the Algarve, Portugal. I was not able to shake it off until I took the guitar and completed the song with Manuel Neto dos Santos who wrote the lyrics.

Tal como um búzio caído
Meu amor
À beira-mar
Pus na guitarra o ouvido
Tive alma a soluçar
Pelo mar
Com o mar

Foi tão triste essa alegría
Vibrando cá bem no fundo
Meu amor, ó como eu quería
Ofrecer-te o fado e o mundo
Mais profundo

Tal como um búzio na areia
Das praias do meu país
E a saudade que enleia
A espuma de ser feliz
Neste sonho de raíz
O das marés
Português

Desde então, o meu destino
É o meu xaile traçado
Em cruz, mortalha do peito
Sou do fado, e desde jeito
Por ter um búzio guardado
No areal da aventura
Mais pura

TAL CARACOLA CAIDA

MI AMOR
A LA ORILLA DEL MAR
PUSE EN LA GUITARRA  EL OÍDO
TUVE MI ALMA A SOLLOZAR
POR EL MAR

CON EL MAR

FUE TAN TRISTE ESA ALEGRÍA
VIBRANDO AQUÍ BIÉN FUNDO
MI AMOR COMO YO QUERÍA
OFRECERTE EL FADO
Y EL MUNDO
MÁS PROFUNDO
MÁS PROFUNDO

TAL CARACOLA EN ARENA
DE PLAYAS DE MI PAÍS
LA NOSTALGIA SE ENLAZA
EN LA ESPUMA DE SER FELIZ
EN MÍ  SUEÑO DE RAÍZ
DE  MAREAS

PORTUGUES

DESDE ENTONCES, MI DESTINO
ES MI CHAL TRAZADO
EN CRUZ, MORTAJA EN EL PECHO
SOY DEL FADO, Y ES POR ESO

TENGO CARACOLA GUARDADA
EN EL ARENAL DE LA AVENTURA
MÁS PURA

3- La Camarera

LA CAMARERA
Music & Lyrics: Javier García Vicente
Electric guitar: Janos Koolen; Drums: Pim Huitink; Percussion: Jeroen de Rijk;
Vocals, acoustic guitar, bass guitar: J.G.V
Dedicated to all the waitresses and waiters from all over the world. To all who serve with a smile and are friendly and professional.

I THINK HER NAME WAS MARIA

THE WAITRESS FROM THAT PLACE
ON A LOST BEACH OFF THE COAST OF PORTUGAL
SHE WAS SO NICE THAT I CAN NOT FORGET HER
WHAT A DIFFERECE IT MAKES TO BE TREATED WITH SUCH CARE

A GOOD WAITRESS, MAKES US FEEL SO GOOD
SHE’LL SERVE YOU WITH JOY A WHISKEY, A COCKTAIL,

NO MATTER WHAT
MARIA LA PORTUGUESA DANCES ON TOP OF THE COUNTER

SHE MOVES HER HIPS AND THE PUNTERS MOVE THEM TOO

IT WAS A VERY CRAZY SUMMER,

LITLE BY LITTLE MELTING AWAY
BUT AT LEAST DURING THE DAY I  COULD GO TO MARIA’S JOINT
IT WAS ALLWAYS BUSTLING THERE THAT ONE DAY

THE POLICE SET UP A ROAD CONTROL
BUT NOBODY DROVE AWAY FROM THERE

SHE WAS A FINE WAITRESS MAKES US FEEL SO GOOD
SHE’LL SERVE YOU WITH JOY A WHISKEY, A COCKTAIL,

NO MATTER WHAT
MARIA LA PORTUGUESA DANCES ON TOP OF THE COUNTER

SHE MOVES HER HIPS AND THE PEOPLE MOVE THEM TOO

SHE ALWAYS KNOWS WHAT YOU DRINK
AND SHE REMEMBERS YOUR NAME
SHE WILL CHEER YOU IF YOU ARE SAD
AND SHE WILL LAUGH YOUR JOKES
SHE KNOWS WHEN YOU ARE ALONE OR WITH SOMEONE
AND WHOEVER IS WITH YOU THEY ALSO BECOME A FAN

SUCH A FINE WAITRESS, MAKES US FEEL SO GOOD
SHE’LL SERVE YOU WITH JOY REGARDLES YOUR HEIGHT OR GENDER
MARIA LA PORTUGUESA DANCES ON TOP OF THE BAR

SHE MOVES HER HIPS AND THE CLIENTELE MOVE THEM TOO

WHAT MOVES? AH!  IS MOVING WITH JOY
AND I CANNOT EVER FORGET HER

NO NO I CAN’T FORGET THE WAITRESS

I CANNOT FORGET HER

2- Amsterdam in March

AMSTERDAM IN MARCH
Music & Lyrics:  Javier García Vicente
Harmonica: Cadijo; Drums: Pim Huitink; Electric guitar: Janos Koolen; Keyboards: Jerome van Rossum; Percussion: Jeroen de Rijk; Vocals, acoustic guitar, bass guitar: J.G.V
I lived in Amsterdam in 2001. Among the many things that happened that year, three changed my life forever: I met the woman whom I have been together since; I had experiences with mushrooms and other hallucinogenic substances that changed my perception of reality forever. The last but not least: The “terrorist” attacks of 9th of September 2001 in the U.S.A. It changed my life and the lives of everyone on this planet. It was the March of my life.
Tell me who was in Amsterdam in March

Who let the spirits fly over the canals

I was there as now I am here

I went to the crossroads
I fell down on my knees

Who walked along the red light district
on a cold wet night

Who saw what I saw, felt what we felt

Twenty seven candles, eight blown out by the wind

Amsterdam in March

It took me so long to realize
how free love can be

‘cause you touch me like no other

I love the way you made me feel

One night i thought i reached the stars

But I found myself lost in hell

So many ghosts hunting me down

I vanished in the crowd
Amsterdam here I come

It took me so long to realize
how free love can be

Amsterdam, it took me so long to realize
that you can love more than once

Amsterdam you blew my mind away
but you brought me home again

Amsterdam, those moments
will stay forever in our hearts

Amsterdam, remember the days
when you used to be my girl

Yes you were. I’ll be waiting
and I hope to see you again

DIME QUIEN ESTABA

EN AMSTERDAM EN MARZO

QUIEN DEJO LAS ALMAS VOLAR EN LOS CANALES

YO ESTABA ALII

COMO AHORA ESTOY AQUI

“FUI AL CRUZE DE CAMINOS

ME POSTRE DE RODILLAS…”

QUIEN CAMINO POR EL BARRIO ROJO

EN UNA NOCHE HUMEDA Y FRIA

QUIEN VIO LO QUE YO

QUIEN SINTIO LO QUE SENTIMOS

27 VELAS Y 8 QUE LAS APAGA EL VIENTO

AMSTERDAM EN MARZO

ME LLEVO TANTO TIEMPO

DARME CUENTA

QUE EL AMOR ES LIBERTAD

PORQUE ME TOCASTE

COMO NADIE

Y LA MANERA DE HACERME SENTIR

AQUELLA NOCHE QUE TOQUE EL CIELO

TAMBIEN ME ENCONTRE CON EL INFIERNO

TANTOS FANTASMAS

DANDOME CAZA
ME DERRITO EN LA MULTITUD
ALLA VOY AMSTERDAM

ME LLEVO TANTO TIEMPO

DARME CUENTA
QUE EL AMOR ES LIBERTAD
ME LLEVO TANTO TIEMPO

DARME CUENTA

QUE SE PUEDES AMAR MAS DE UNA VEZ

AMSTERDAM

ME DEJASTE IMPRESIONADO

Y ME TRAJISTE A CASA DE NUEVO

AMSTERDAM
ESOS MOMENTOS QUEDARAN
PARA SIEMPRE EN NUESTROS CORAZONES

RECUERDAS LOS DIAS

QUE ERAS MI CHICA

AMSTERDAM

ESPERO QUE LO VUELVAS A SER
